NEW for 2025-2026 OTC and Prescription Medications In All School Settings
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to inform you of an important policy update from the Kentucky Department of Education
that will affect the administration of over-the-counter (OTC) medications and prescription medications in
all school settings.
Effective for the 2025–2026 school year, If a parent/guardian wishes to provide OTC medications (such
as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, antacids, cough drops, etc.) they are required to complete the designated
form and have a medical provider signature.
This form must be completed for any prescription medications that your student may require during the
school day as well.
This change is part of a statewide effort to ensure student safety and consistency in school health
practices.
Please note that this form is not valid until it includes both the healthcare provider’s signature and your
signature.
We recommend that families begin discussing this new requirement with their healthcare providers ahead
of the 2025–2026 school year, especially during routine check-ups.
If you have any questions, please contact your school nurse or medical assistant.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting the health and well-being of our students.
Sincerely,
Tara Greenwell RN District Health Coordinator Breckinridge County Schools
